FG Launches Cash Transfer Program in Kogi State, Inaugurates New Ministry
Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has announced the establishment of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation within the state. This announcement was made during the official flag-off ceremony held on Tuesday at the governor’s office, marking the commencement of the distribution of federal government grants to vulnerable groups in Kogi State.
The cash grant, totaling N20,000 for each beneficiary, aims to alleviate poverty and mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal on vulnerable groups across Nigeria.
During the distribution kickoff, Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, clarified that the grants for vulnerable groups are not loans and do not require repayment. She emphasized the President’s commitment to lifting at least 50 million Nigerians out of poverty, outlining various programs designed to enhance the economic well-being of the common man.
“This Grant for Vulnerable Groups is a Kickstarter, intended to boost your business and contribute positively to your endeavors,” Dr. Edu stated.
Governor Yahaya Bello expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his dedication to poverty alleviation and hunger eradication in the country. Describing President Tinubu as a humanitarian with the interests of the common man at heart, Governor Bello acknowledged the proactive approach of the federal government in empowering the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs to run impactful programs.
To ensure effective participation in the initiative, Governor Bello announced the creation of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Kogi State. He also pledged to present a bill for the establishment of the Kogi State Social Investment Agency to the House of Assembly, along with the 2024 budget.
In their respective goodwill messages, the Head of Service and Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Hannah Odiyo, and Mukadam Asiwaju Idris lauded the poverty eradication initiatives of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration. They expressed confidence that Kogi State would continue to benefit from the comprehensive poverty reduction programs implemented by the federal government.
