Reno Omokri Says Tinubu Delivering PDP’s Promises, Responds to Attacks from Atiku’s Camp
Reno Omokri has defended his continued support for President Bola Tinubu, asserting that the president is implementing major reforms that were long championed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In a statement shared on Tuesday, Omokri addressed recent criticism from allies of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, calling the attacks unwarranted and disappointing.
Omokri, a former media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, maintained that he has consistently shown respect for Atiku and his political vision. “There is absolutely no reason for those around Waziri Atiku Abubakar to fight with someone who only has the utmost respect for the former Vice President and has never had an unkind word to say about him overtly or covertly,” he stated.
Defending his political position, Omokri explained that his backing of Tinubu stems from the president’s implementation of policies PDP had long advocated for, including fuel subsidy removal, naira flotation, power devolution, and student loan programmes. “Yes, I support President Bola Tinubu and forcefully so because he is delivering the results we in the Peoples Democratic Party said we were going to achieve,” Omokri said. “Our goal is Nigeria’s progress.”
He stressed that national development should transcend party lines. “It does not matter if the cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice, and it matters not if the party in power is APC or PDP, as long as it delivers progress for the Nigerian nation.”
Highlighting similarities between the two political leaders, Omokri described both Tinubu and Atiku as stemming from the same ideological roots in the 1989 Social Democratic Party. “There is little or no difference between them,” he said.
On questions about his loyalty, Omokri insisted he has never compromised confidential information and has never sought personal gain from his association with Atiku. “Despite what happened after 2023, nobody can say I have attempted to profit privately or publicly from such confidences,” he asserted.
Reacting to the hostility from Atiku’s camp, Omokri said he was taken aback. “To therefore attack me, when I have never even as much as said one negative word about Waziri or his immediate coterie, is most unkind. Nevertheless, I will not respond in kind.”
Omokri concluded by reaffirming that his restraint in the face of criticism is a matter of principle, not fear. “I choose to suffer the insults hurled at me without any retaliation. I am only observing restraint out of respect, not out of cowardice.”
He also stated he remains committed to defending President Tinubu against political opposition. “As long as Obi takes on President Tinubu, I will tackle him,” he said.
