Police Arrest Alleged Kidnapper in Abuja, Successfully Rescue Abducted Victim

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command has reported the successful arrest of another individual believed to be involved in kidnapping. FCT Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, revealed this development during a press briefing on Wednesday.

According to Garba, the arrest followed a distress call received by police operatives from the Iddo division on Sunday. The call reported that armed men in a black Toyota Corolla had targeted a moving Prado jeep, firing at its tires. The driver, identified as Suleiman Sabo, was on his way home in the Sabon Lugbe area when he was forced to halt.

The police commissioner disclosed that as Sabo exited the vehicle, he was forcibly taken by the kidnappers, who left behind his wife and car. Swift action by police operatives led to the successful tracing and apprehension of the suspect.

Garba provided additional details, stating, “The effort paid off on January 21 when the DPO received information that something abnormal is happening in a particular house at Sauka village. The DPO moved in and cordoned the house; behold, the kidnapped victim was found with the suspect, armed with a Mark IV rifle and 10 rounds of live ammunition.”

The arrested suspect was promptly taken into custody, and the firearm was recovered. The rescued victim, Suleiman Sabo, sustained gunshot injuries and has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Highlighting the effectiveness of the recently inaugurated Police Special Intervention Squad (SIS), Garba emphasized a notable decline in kidnapping reports in the Bwari axis of the FCT. He attributed this success to the strategic blocking of identified bandits’ routes, particularly in the Bwari area council.

Garba concluded by mentioning the numerous arrests of suspected kidnappers and armed robbers, along with the rescue of their victims. The police have also recovered several weapons, including vehicles taken from the victims.
