In a major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism, the troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army have successfully arrested two terrorist collaborators and ammunition suppliers in the early hours of Tuesday, October 24, 2023. The operation took place in the Awon general area of Kachia Local Government in Kaduna State.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops acted swiftly, apprehending the criminals in their respective residences. The culprits, identified as Shuaibu Lawan and Salihu Usman, were taken into custody. Their arrests were made possible through information provided by a previously detained collaborator who has been cooperating with the authorities.
In a search of the suspects’ properties, the troops made a remarkable discovery, unearthing a significant cache of weapons and ammunition. Among the items seized were a locally made AK-47 rifle, two dane guns, eight rounds of 9mm ammunition, seven live cartridges, and five expended cartridge shells. These dangerous materials had been concealed on the criminals’ premises, posing a substantial threat to the safety and security of the region.
In a separate operation conducted on the same day, troops of the 1 Division Nigerian Army were engaged in a clearance operation around the Dogon Daji-Saulawa general area in Birnin Gwari Local Government. During this mission, contact was made with terrorist and criminal elements operating in the region. A fierce gun battle ensued, forcing the criminals to disperse in disarray, thanks to the troops’ superior firepower.
The recovered items from this operation included a G3 rifle, 16 motorcycles, two locally made guns, and a mobile phone. The successful operations underline the determination and commitment of the troops to eliminate the threats posed by these criminal elements.
Major General Valentine Okoro, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Force Commander of Operation WHIRL PUNCH, has commended the troops for their swift and effective actions. He urged them to maintain their high level of performance and continue working diligently to rid the Division’s Area of Responsibility of all criminal elements.
The apprehension of terrorist collaborators and the recovery of weapons and motorcycles represent a significant step in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and criminal activities in the area. The troops of the 1 Division continue to stand resolute in their mission to protect the citizens and maintain peace in the state.
