DSS Raids Suspected Terrorist’s Home, Seizes Arms and Ammunition Following Intense Gunfire Exchange
In a daring operation, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Niger State Command, executed a raid on the residence of a suspected terrorist in the Kulobe community, situated in the Gbeganu area of Minna. The operation was carried out on Tuesday following a crucial tip-off from vigilant neighbors. The subsequent search of the suspect’s home revealed a substantial cache of weaponry, including over 150 AK-47 rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition.
The suspected terrorist, having spotted the approaching DSS operatives via his security cameras, initiated a fierce gun battle with the law enforcement officers. This dramatic incident unfolded between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Tuesday, during which the suspect deployed a rocket launcher to breach part of his property’s perimeter wall, allowing him to escape. Left behind were his wife and children, who were apprehended by the security forces.
A credible source within the security establishment reported that during the inventory of confiscated weapons, the authorities discovered an alarming arsenal, which included explosives, a rocket launcher, anti-aircraft rifles, and a staggering quantity of over 3,000 rounds of ammunition.
Startled residents and neighbors attested to the intensity of the exchange of fire and the thunderous roar of the rocket launcher, which reverberated through the vicinity. The confrontations between the alleged terrorist and the security operatives left a trail of destruction, with numerous homes bearing signs of damage, such as shattered windows, doors, roofing sheets, and walls.
The aftermath of the operation also revealed empty bullet casings strewn across the neighborhood, serving as a stark reminder of the ferocity of the encounter. Tragically, a watchman residing in close proximity to the suspect’s residence, identified as Mubarak Abubakar, was struck by a stray bullet during the firefight. He is currently receiving medical treatment at the IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna.
The spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, Abiodun Wasiu, has indicated that he will investigate the matter and provide further details. However, as of the time of reporting, there has been no update from the police regarding their investigation.
The operation has sent shockwaves through the local community, leaving residents in awe of the sheer scale of weaponry found within the terrorist’s possession and the intense showdown that transpired in their midst. Further updates on this developing story will be closely monitored.
