“Peter Obi Is Our Product, a Great Asset — We Want Him Back” – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed that efforts are underway to bring former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi back into the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking during an appearance on Arise News on Thursday, the PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, described Obi as a major political asset and “a product of the PDP.”

Abdullahi praised Obi’s performance in the 2023 presidential election, where he contested under the Labour Party after leaving the PDP. Despite allegations of electoral manipulation, Obi secured over six million votes and won 12 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. He ultimately placed third behind PDP’s Atiku Abubakar and the eventual winner, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“Peter Obi is our product, and the PDP indeed wants to get him back. He is a very great capital for any political party, and any political party that will have him will be to their advantage,” Abdullahi said. “If he had not gone the way he did and still generated over six million votes despite the rigging and frustration in many states, it proves that Peter Obi is truly political capital.”

Obi, who served as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2019 elections under the PDP, left the party in 2022 to secure the Labour Party’s presidential ticket. He has since reaffirmed his affiliation with the Labour Party but also expressed support for a new coalition being spearheaded by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Meanwhile, Atiku Abubakar has resigned from the PDP and is now a leading figure in a newly formed coalition aiming to unseat the incumbent president in 2027 through democratic means.
