PDP to Fayose: You’ve Lost Political Relevance, Leave Our Party
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has lashed out at former governor Ayodele Fayose, branding him a serial betrayer and urging him to exit the party rather than continue what it described as public ridicule. The criticism followed Fayose’s recent appearance on Channels Television, where he declared that the PDP was “dead.”
Reacting in a statement made available on Saturday, Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Ekiti, Dare Adeleke, condemned Fayose’s remarks, accusing him of repeatedly undermining the party that gave him the platform to serve as governor on two occasions. Adeleke alleged that Fayose’s consistent endorsement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti amounted to political treachery and would no longer be tolerated.
According to Adeleke, Fayose’s recent behavior stems from his frustration after failing to gain control of the PDP’s structure in the state, particularly his unsuccessful attempt to install loyalists as executives in two local government areas. He asserted that Fayose’s influence in Ekiti politics has significantly waned, noting that no party leader or official has followed him in his efforts to weaken the PDP.
Adeleke questioned Fayose’s continued presence in a party he has repeatedly criticized, stating, “He admitted on air that he supported Tinubu because he’s his friend and kinsman, as if Nigeria now runs on tribal sentiment. Eventually, he admitted he was a bitter and disgruntled man who betrayed his own party simply because he didn’t get what he wanted.”
He added that despite Fayose’s self-proclaimed influence, not one ward or local government chairman had joined him in defecting to rival parties like the APC or ADC. Adeleke described Fayose’s political maneuvers as attempts to destabilize the PDP from within, likening him to “a soldier who repeatedly sells secrets to the enemy and then complains about not getting promoted.”
Expressing confidence in the PDP’s future, Adeleke declared that the party is poised to reclaim Ekiti State in the next election cycle. He dismissed Fayose’s loyalists as “APC and ADC-bound jokers” and vowed that only true party faithful would drive the PDP’s resurgence in the state.
“The PDP, which Fayose now refers to as ‘they,’ remains strong,” Adeleke said. “Let it be known, the PDP will win Ekiti State and I am emphatic about this.”
