PDP is sinking fast, two more governors and 40 lawmakers set to defect – Ugochinyere warns party leaders

Imo State House of Representatives member, Ikenga Ugochinyere, has issued a warning to the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), revealing that two more state governors and 40 lawmakers are set to defect from the party. Speaking to PDP members in Akokwa, Imo State, on Friday, Ugochinyere called on the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) to urgently address the looming crisis.

Ugochinyere’s statement comes amid mounting tensions within the party, with the lawmaker emphasizing the need for swift action to prevent further defections that could jeopardize the party’s future. He also raised concerns about the recent removal of the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, urging the PDP to rectify the decision and replace Damagum with a candidate from the North Central region. Additionally, Ugochinyere demanded the expulsion of the PDP’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, accusing him of undermining the party’s stability.

He warned that the party is in danger of sinking unless immediate measures are taken. “PDP is sinking and it’s sinking very fast,” he said. “The NWC must act now to avert the imminent danger.” Ugochinyere called for an emergency meeting of the NWC to expel Anyanwu and to confirm a new National Chairman from the North Central, as well as adopt the Ikimi report, which recommends suspending Anyanwu.

His remarks come on the heels of recent defections from the PDP, including former presidential running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, both of whom joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
