PDP Disciplinary Committee Begins Review of Allegations Against Makinde, Wike, Ortom, Others

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Disciplinary Committee has received reports on the alleged anti-party activities of key members, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, following the 2023 general elections.

Led by former Foreign Affairs Minister Tom Ikimi, the committee was tasked by the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) to handle disciplinary matters concerning the party. Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, and other high-ranking members have been accused of working against the party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the 2023 elections.

The accusations focus on Wike and four other former PDP governors—Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia)—who reportedly undermined the party after a disagreement over the party’s leadership. The rift stemmed from the refusal of former National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu to relinquish his position to a southern member.

Ibrahim Abdullahi, the PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, confirmed that those accused of anti-party activities, including Wike and other members of the “G-5” group, would be summoned before the panel to explain their roles in the alleged sabotage.

“There is now a focus on enforcing discipline within the party,” Abdullahi stated, noting that both reconciliation and disciplinary panels had been formed. He added that letters were being sent out to Wike and other petitioned members.

While the PDP’s internal probe aims to resolve these disputes, some insiders warn that the investigation must be handled carefully to avoid further divisions within the party. Timothy Osadolor, the Deputy National Youth Leader, suggested that severe consequences like suspension or expulsion could be considered for those found guilty of anti-party conduct.

Despite these developments, the panel has not yet officially invited Wike or other implicated members. When contacted for comment, Wike’s ally, Senator Olaka Wogu, dismissed the reports of an invitation as speculative.
