How I Was Offered Money to Impeach Makinde — Oyo Assembly Speaker
The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, says he turned down an offer of financial inducement aimed at pushing for the impeachment of Governor Seyi Makinde.
Ogundoyin made the statement while responding to allegations that he had received money through associates of the All Progressives Congress to facilitate the governor’s removal. He rejected the claims, stating that no such transaction took place and describing the reports as false.
According to him, the alleged offer was an attempt to destabilise the state’s political structure. He maintained that he declined the proposal and remains committed to his role and responsibilities.
“I was offered monetary inducement, but I declined without hesitation,” Ogundoyin said, adding that his decisions are guided by his duty to the state and its residents.
He also dismissed suggestions of internal conflict within the state government, saying there is no breakdown in relations between the legislative and executive arms. Efforts to create tension, he added, would not succeed.
The Speaker reaffirmed his position that the House would continue to operate within constitutional boundaries and prioritise governance.
Addressing separate claims surrounding his visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Ogundoyin said the meeting was unrelated to any political plot. He explained that the visit was to formally inform the monarch of his governorship ambition and seek traditional blessings.
The remarks come amid rising political tension in Oyo State following comments by former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, who alleged ongoing political manoeuvres involving both the governor and the traditional institution.
Meanwhile, the Chief Whip of the Assembly, Gbenga Oyekola, has also publicly expressed support for Governor Makinde, distancing himself from any alleged effort to undermine the administration.
