Obi, Makinde Hold Private Meeting in Ibadan Amid Opposition Consultations

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi met behind closed doors with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Tuesday at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, in what sources described as part of ongoing political consultations.

The meeting came less than 72 hours after Ibadan hosted a high-level gathering of opposition leaders and stakeholders from across the country, fueling speculation about efforts to strengthen cooperation among opposition forces.

Sources familiar with the development said the Obi-Makinde meeting is linked to wider consultations within opposition circles, including discussions around cohesion and possible strategic alignments ahead of future political activities.

The meeting also followed Obi’s separate engagement on Monday with former President Goodluck Jonathan, a move seen in some quarters as part of broader political realignments.

Neither Obi nor Makinde had issued an official statement on the outcome of the talks at the time of filing this report, though more details are expected to emerge.
