A shocking incident unfolded in Nnewi as Pastor Prosper Obum Igboke, a member of a local Pentecostal church, tragically ended his own life by jumping from a two-storey building. The devastating act followed the heart-wrenching experience of being jilted by his romantic partner.
Sources close to the matter reported that the 30-year-old pastor had invested deeply in his relationship, even providing financial support to put his lover through university. In a cruel turn of events, his heartfelt marriage proposal was met with rejection by the woman he had supported.
A relative of the deceased, speaking under the condition of anonymity, expressed bewilderment at the tragedy, saying, “It’s astonishing that a pastor at his age could take such a drastic step. He was not only emotionally invested but also played a significant role in her education.”
The community was left in shock and disbelief as the news spread, highlighting the emotional turmoil that can follow such personal crises. Adding to the tragedy, sources revealed that according to the customs of Leru autonomous community of Umunneochi LGA in Abia State, the deceased would be laid to rest in a forest area, as a consequence of his actions being deemed sacrilegious.
The somber funeral took place on Friday, where Pastor Prosper Obum Igboke was laid to rest in a secluded bush location. The heart-wrenching incident serves as a grim reminder of the complex emotions that can arise from romantic relationships and the need for mental health awareness and support in times of distress.
