Nigerian Army Eliminates Notorious TikTok Bandit Commander Alti
Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed a notorious bandit commander known as Alti during a military operation in north-west Nigeria, according to a source at Army Headquarters.
The source told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday that the operation dealt a significant blow to armed groups operating across Zamfara, Katsina and parts of Sokoto states.
Alti was linked to several attacks along the Gusau–Funtua highway, a route that has recorded frequent kidnappings and ambushes in recent years. Though relatively young, he had reportedly risen to a leadership position among bandit factions in the region.
Security sources said he controlled bases stretching from southern Gusau to areas near Jibiya and Funtua. From these locations, fighters under his command were accused of carrying out kidnappings, highway ambushes and attacks involving improvised explosive devices.
Within bandit networks, Alti was reportedly known as “the money bank” because of his role in coordinating ransom payments from multiple kidnapping operations.
He also gained attention online, posting TikTok videos in which he displayed weapons and issued threats.
Security analysts say his death could disrupt kidnapping operations along the Zamfara–Katsina corridor, an area considered strategic for bandit activity.
Communities across the region have faced repeated abductions and have often been forced to pay large ransoms for the release of victims. Analysts believe the removal of key figures within these groups is central to ongoing efforts to weaken organized criminal networks in north-west Nigeria.
