Man Arrested for Attempted Rape Inside Married Couple’s Home

In a harrowing incident that unfolded in the tranquil suburb of Mowe-Ofada, Ogun State, the Nigeria police have apprehended a man, Godstime Ekanem, for his alleged attempt to rape a married woman, Mrs. Jelila Oyinbo, inside her own home.

According to a statement by SP Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer of Ogun State, the shocking episode took place in the early hours of September 26, 2023, within the confines of the Oyinbo family’s residence, located in the MTN Estate of Mowe-Ofada, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.

Reports suggest that Ekanem, himself a married man, had persistently harassed Mrs. Oyinbo with unwanted advances, despite repeated warnings to desist from such behavior. His determination to pursue these advances ultimately led him to commit a brazen act of breaking into the woman’s matrimonial home during her husband’s absence.

In her statement to the police, Mrs. Oyinbo described the terrifying ordeal, stating, “Today the 28th of September, 2023, one Mrs. Jelila Oyinbo of MTN Estate in Mowe Ofada Ogun State reported that Godstime Ekanem is in the habit of sexually harassing her, despite warning him severally that she is a married woman, but Ekanem remained adamant and continued with his sexual advances.”

Upon realizing that her husband had left the premises, Ekanem forcibly entered her home with the intent to engage in unlawful conduct. A struggle ensued between Mrs. Oyinbo and her assailant. Desperate for help, she contacted her brother-in-law, Michael Oyewole, who raced to the scene.

As Ekanem took refuge in a restroom, a fierce confrontation erupted between him and Michael Oyewole. During the altercation, Oyewole wielded a hammer, inflicting injuries to his hand. In retaliation, Ekanem suffered a deep cut to his head from Oyewole’s cutlass.

As he fled the scene, Ekanem left behind crucial evidence, abandoning his mobile phone and slippers within the victim’s room. The swift response of the local police resulted in Ekanem’s arrest, while Michael Oyewole was promptly taken to the hospital for necessary medical attention.
