Police Arrest Officer For Facebook Post Calling Out Buhari, Osinbajo For Failing the Nation

The Yobe state Police Command has arrested a mobile police officer (Mopol) over a Facebook post where he called out president Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for failing the nation.

Confirming the arrest of the police officer, one inspector Sunday U. Japhet, the Yobe state Police Commissioner, Abdulmaliki Sunmonu said the case has been transferred to the zone 12 headquarters Bauchi for investigation.

He said,“Yes, he made the statements on his Facebook account. However, CP has no much conformation of disciplinary power for an inspector. Only the DIG has, so he was invited to Zonal headquarters (Zone 12) Bauchi, and AIG is investigating his case. Due process would be followed.”

The officer, who was on a special duty in Yobe from 8 Police Mobile Squadron Jos took to Facebook to express his dissatisfaction over the killing of 3 policemen in Taraba state by soldiers, accusing Buhari and Osinbajo for failing the nation and threatening revenge for the killings. The officer also accused the police authorities of withholding their allowances while planning to stage demonstrations.

The Police spokesman in Yobe, ASP Abdulmalik Abdulhafiz, in a statement dismissed claims of unpaid allowances by the officer as untrue.

The statement reads “the attention of the Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command has been drawn to a write-up made by one Ap/No210138 Inspr. Sunday U. Japhet of Police Mobile Force number 8 squadron Jos, who is on special duty at Dapchi Bursari L.G.A via his Facebook account.

“The Yobe State Command wishes to inform the general public that only the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) has the right to communicate to the public through any medium about all issues affecting the Command.

“It is a baseless lies that the police high command deposited the allowance of the personnel in some secret accounts in order to share the acquired interest.

“It is on record that the Federal Government is operating Treasury Single Account (TSA) that made it impossible to divert any fund.

“Furthermore, all payments are directly paid into the Private Bank Account of all personnel from the office of the Accountant General of the Federation.

“Lastly, the Inspector General of Police has been working assiduously to ensure the timely payment of allowances of personnel nationwide”.

Army Fears Retaliation From Police For Killing of Officers, Directs Travelling Soldiers to Wear Mufti

Fearing retaliation for the killing of three police officers in Takum, Taraba state last week from members of the Nigerian Police Force, the Chief of Army Staff, Brig. Gen. Tukur Buratai has directed military personnel on Internal Security (IS) to wear mufti when travelling.

In a letter dated August 9,2019 titled, ‘Need for troops to be circumspect in dealing with members of the Nigeria Police’, marked AHQDAIOPS/G3/240/232 signed on behalf of the COAS by Brig. Gen. F. Omoigui, the COAS advised formations and unit commanders to educate their troops on the need to be cautious when dealing with members of the Police.

The letter reads, “In the aftermath of the unfortunate incident involving troops of 93 bn, Takum and members of the Intelligence Response Team of the NPF at Ibi LGA of Taraba State on August 6, 2019, inciting and inflammatory comments are being made by the NPF on the regular and social media platforms.

“This is capable of inciting the rank and file of the NP to exhibit aggressive tendencies against NA personnel. Accordingly, all troops on IS (Internal Security) duty as well as personnel travelling in and out of uniform are to be circumspect in their conduct to avoid escalation.”

“Consequently, formations and unit commanders are to educate troops to be cautious in their dealings with members of the NP in view of this development. Troops travelling on pass are to endeavor to do so in mufti”.

Group Wants Soldiers Involved in Killing of Policemen Prosecuted, Says Army Dancing Over the Graves of Fallen Officers

The Centre for Change Initiative has urged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to prosecute soldiers involved in the alleged killing of three policemen and a civilian.

The President of the group, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, made the call in a statement, said the soldiers should be prosecuted for murder to serve as deterrent to others.

The statement said, “The images of the savage killings which have gone viral are quite reminiscent of Boko Haram operations.

“It is surprising that instead of the army to be remorseful for the senseless killings that portray it as aiding criminality, it has engaged in dancing over the graves of the gallant officers, who were credited with successful anti-kidnap operations by calling them suspected kidnappers. We have not heard a word of condolence to the families of the killed policemen from the army.

“We reject any attempt to sweep this high crime under the carpet by setting up an investigation that will lure us into forgetfulness. We demand immediate identification of the officers involved and their prosecution for murder immediately.

“This is the only way to prove to the world that Nigeria has not become a total jungle. We pray for the souls of the officers and send our heartfelt condolences to their families.”

The police authorities last week announced that three police officers and a civilian were killed in an encounter with soldiers on the Ibi-Jalingo highway in Taraba on Aug. 6.

The army and police authorities have since constituted a joint investigation panel to probe the incident.

Revolution: DSS,Police Arrest Sahara Reporters Founder, Sowore

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police Force in the early hours of Saturday invaded the home of the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 general elections, Omoyele Sowere.

According to a tweet by Sahara Reporters @SaharaReporters, an online news medium founded by Sowore, the operatives who stormed his home around 1:25 am seized his mobile phones and arrested him.

See tweet;

The arrest is not unconnected with a planned mass action by Sowore against election rigging and bad governance in the country, tagged ‘Days of Rage’ billed to commence on August 5, 2019.

Sowore had last week in Abuja at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the AAC announced that he will lead the protest.

” Election was an opportunity to carry out a revolution of ballot box but they stole the ballot box. They hijacked materials that were meant for free and fair election and as a result they did not organise any election that was credible enough for people to have faith in the ballot box” he said.

“The revolution has therefore become inevitable. We didn’t choose to go for revolution, they chose it by ensuring that there was no level playing field in the last election.

” As you know, they did it in Sudan and it was started by some women. They were making fun of them but they did not stop until doctors joined them , the labour union joined them and what started with five people became 5,000 and 500,000 and became 5,000,000 and the regime fell.

” So don’t let anybody deceive you that in asking for a better government or country, you are committing any illegality . The biggest illegality being committed in Nigeria as of today is the rigging of election in 2019. The moment you don’t allow people to express their God-given rights to choose their leaders, you are committing an illegality and inviting resistance” he added.

It’s ‘Nonsense’, Ishaku Condemns Police Raid

The governor of Taraba state, Darius Ishaku has condemned the siege on his private residence in Abuja by the Nigeria Police Force.
Ishaku who addressed journalists in Jalingo after he received the immediate past minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Senator Aisha Alhassan at the government house said the action of the police under the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration was disgraceful and embarrassing.
He said,“I feel very bad that the democratic government of the All Progressives Congress is not living according to the tenents of the constitution. It is disgraceful, embarrassing and insulting.
“I’m shocked that only my party, the Peoples Democratic Party condemned the police’s siege on my house. APC didn’t talk about it. Don’t they have governors? Can somebody walk into an APC governor’s house and search it?
“They broke the gate, broke all the doors of my house, threw out my children. I used two years to beg them (children) to come back to Nigeria. Now, one of them has gone back, I’m still begging him to come back to Nigeria. This is nonsense.”
Alhassan, who contested the March 2019 governorship in the state against Ishaku said she was at the government house to congratulate the governor on his victory and to pledge her support for his administration.
“I believe that leadership is ordained by God and we cannot all be governors at the same time, therefore, I have accepted my fate.
“My visit to you is to demonstrate oneness as we all contested to better the lives of our people but we cannot emerge at the same time.
“It becomes expedient to team up together with you to move the state forward. I and my supporters are ready to assist whenever there is a need for us to render assistance,” she said.

“This is with a view to proffering pragmatic and far-reaching solutions to crimes in the country.

“In this regard, the Conference will review the pattern and trend of crimes over the past one month, highlight our achievements, identify our challenges, geo-locate the current security threats and evaluate strategies with a view to strengthening our crime management template” he added.

Police Arrests Man Who Raised False Alarm that Led to Lynching of Three Men in Kaduna

The Kaduna state police command on Tuesday arrested one Alhaji Musa Imam who raised a false alarm at the Kawo flyover in Kaduna that resulted in the lynching of three persons on Monday who were mistaken for kidnappers.

The command’s public relations officer, DSP Yakubu Sabo, who announced the arrest in a statement also said one of the three persons shot in the effort to stop the mob from lynching the men has died.

Sabo said that the Lagos Police Command with the three men who stood surety for Imam trailed him to Kaduna to invite him to the station “but on seeing them, he raised the alarm that they are kidnapers and the mob attacked the men that stood surety for him.”

Imam was arrested for fraud in Lagos and granted bail but he fled to Kaduna prompting the police to storm the state with his three sureties to effect his arrest.

Sabo had earlier on Monday in a statement explained the circumstances surrounding the lynching of the three men by an angry mob who thought they were kidnappers.

The statement reads,

“Some operatives from Lagos Command came in respect of one Alhaji Musa in a fraud case. They came with some sureties who stood for bail for him in Lagos. They tried to come for him to come to Lagos for his case but he was evading justice so they came looking for him in Kaduna.
“While the Police where putting together their papers, the three friends or sureties decided to track and put a tab on him. They met him and told him to follow them but he refused and decided to take his children to school.
“He raised false alarm that they were kidnappers while trailing him, that was how the driver trapped in the vehicle was lynched. One of them was wounded in the head and fell into gutter, the other two escaped and were sheltered in a filling station.
“The police came later and rescued them but were resisted by the thugs who became agitated so the police had to use force.
“The police is saddled with protection of lives, and will not hand over suspects to mobs to lynch.
“The police didn’t do this alone, they were reinforced with the army and subsequently evacuated the suspects.
“One is receiving treatment in the hospital, while the other two are okay and have even given statement concerning the issue, alongside policemen that accompanied them from Lagos”
