21-Year-Old Arrested for Alleged R@pe, Killing of Elderly Woman in Ondo
Police in Ondo State have arrested a 21-year-old man over the alleged rape and killing of an elderly woman in Iboropa-Akoko, located in the Akoko North-East Local Government Area.
The suspect, identified as Anthony Alabi, was taken into custody after investigators traced the mobile phone of the deceased, Veronica Anthony, to him.
Security operatives moved quickly to contain rising tension in the community, where some youths had gathered with the intention of attacking the suspect before he was secured and taken away.
A spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Jimoh Abayomi, confirmed the arrest and said the suspect admitted to the offence during interrogation.
He explained that detectives acted on intelligence, which led them to track the victim’s missing phone and eventually apprehend the suspect.
According to him, the case has been transferred to the police headquarters in Akure for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.
