JUST IN: “You Will Start Receiving Your New Minimum Wage Alerts Today,” FG Tells Civil Servants
The Nigerian government has officially commenced the payment of the new minimum wage to civil servants on the federal payroll, starting today, Thursday, September 26.
This was confirmed by Bawa Mokwa, the spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, in an exclusive interview. Mokwa stated that federal employees would begin receiving alerts reflecting their new minimum wage as of today, though he did not specify whether the payment would include arrears.
“Federal Government civil servants will start getting the new minimum wage from today (Thursday), September 2024. What I can tell you is that the minimum wage salary payment starts today, but I am not sure about the arrears,” Mokwa told Daily Post.
This announcement follows a statement by the Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, Ekpo Nta, who confirmed that the government had approved an upward review of the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS) to align with the 2024 Minimum Wage Amendment Act.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier approved the increase to a N70,000 minimum wage in July 2024, and the Senate subsequently passed the new minimum wage bill into law.
