JUST IN: Federal Government Raises NYSC Monthly Allowance to N77,000
The Federal Government has announced an increase in the monthly allowance for Corps Members to N77,000, effective July 2024. This new allowance exceeds the recently established national minimum wage of N70,000 by N7,000.
The announcement was made in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), dated September 25, 2024, and signed by the commission’s chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta.
According to Caroline Embu, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations for NYSC, this increment aligns with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, which set the minimum wage for workers at N70,000.
Embu stated, “This increase follows an advocacy visit by NYSC Director General Brigadier General YD Ahmed to the Chairman of the NSIWC, where he sought enhanced welfare packages for Corps Members.”
The NYSC leadership expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for this timely decision, highlighting its potential to provide much-needed support to Corps Members, boost their morale, and encourage them to enhance their service to the nation.
