JUST IN: Six PDP Lawmakers Defect to APC, Two LP Reps Join PDP (Full List)

In a fresh wave of political realignments in Nigeria’s House of Representatives, eight lawmakers on Tuesday announced their defection from their respective political parties. The development saw six members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) switch allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), while two Labour Party (LP) lawmakers defected to the PDP.

Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, read the individual defection letters during plenary, officially confirming the moves.

The two lawmakers who defected from the Labour Party to the PDP are:

Obetta Chidi – representing Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency, Enugu State

Dennis Agbo – representing Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency, Enugu State

The six lawmakers who left the PDP for the APC are:

Victor Nwokolo – representing Ika North East/Ika South Federal Constituency, Delta State

Pondi Julius Gbabojor – representing Burutu Federal Constituency, Delta State

Thomas Ereyitomi – representing Warri North/Warri South/Warri West Federal Constituency, Delta State

Mutu Nicholas Ebomo – representing Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency, Delta State

Ukodhiko Jonathan – representing Isoko North/Isoko South Federal Constituency, Delta State

Ezechi Nnamdi – representing Ndokwa East/Ndokwa West/Ukwuani Federal Constituency, Delta State

In their letters, the defectors cited internal crises and unresolved divisions within their parties as the driving factors behind their decision. They expressed concern that the instability threatened their ability to deliver effectively on their mandates and claimed that their constituents were in support of the defections.
