JUST IN: PDP Faction Suspends Acting National Chairman Damagum, National Secretary Anyanwu

A faction of the Peoples’ Democratic republic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has suspended the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, for alleged acts of disloyalty.

This latest action comes on the heels of an earlier decision by a faction loyal to Damagum, which had suspended the party’s National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, and National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, also over allegations of disloyalty.

In a dramatic turn, Ologunagba, in a statement released on Friday, announced the suspension of Damagum and Anyanwu, citing violations of party loyalty. The statement explained that the NWC had reviewed complaints regarding a letter signed by Damagum and Anyanwu to the Court of Appeal. The letter was seen as contrary to the PDP’s official stance in an ongoing case involving 27 former Rivers State House of Assembly members who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The NWC condemned this anti-party activity… which is in gross violation of the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) and their Oath of Office,” the statement read.

As a result, the NWC invoked Sections 57, 58, and 59 of the party’s constitution to suspend both officials, referring them to the National Disciplinary Committee for further investigation. Damagum and Anyanwu are now barred from participating in all NWC meetings and activities pending the outcome of the investigation.
