JUST IN: Army Redeploys 71 Senior Officers, Including 60 Major Generals and 11 Brigadier Generals, in Nationwide Shake-up (Full List)

The Nigerian Army has announced the redeployment of 60 major generals and 11 brigadier generals in a sweeping reorganisation across its formations and units. The new postings, detailed in a memo dated October 30 and signed by E.L. Okoro, the Military Secretary (Army), take effect from November 3, 2025.

According to the memo, only four of the senior officers — Major Generals P.A.O. Okoye, Y. Yahaya, I. Otu, and S. Nuhu — will remain in their current locations but assume new roles. Commanders of affected formations have been directed to ensure that officers report to their new assignments on the specified dates and to take disciplinary action against anyone who fails to comply. The directive also warned that commanders who delay the release of posted officers will face sanctions.

This development follows last week’s major changes in the top hierarchy of the Nigerian military, approved by President Bola Tinubu. In that shake-up, Major General Waidi Shaibu was appointed Chief of Army Staff, replacing Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, who was promoted to Chief of Defence Staff. Air Vice Marshal Sunday Aneke became Chief of Air Staff, while Rear Admiral Idi Abbas was named Chief of Naval Staff. The changes came amid heightened security attention following reports of a foiled coup attempt, which the military authorities have denied.

The army said the redeployment is part of efforts to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen command structures across all divisions.
