“I’m So Glad I Didn’t Have a Boy” – Michelle Obama Reflects on Parenting with Barack
In a candid discussion on her IMO podcast, former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama revealed that she is “so glad” she did not have a male child with her husband, former President Barack Obama. Speaking with her brother and co-host, Craig Robinson, and guest radio personality Angie Martinez, Michelle opened up about the unique challenges of raising boys in today’s world.
When Martinez asked why the Obamas never tried for a son to accompany their daughters, Sasha and Malia, Michelle responded with humor and honesty: “Because he would’ve been a Barack Obama!” She added that while some might find the idea of a “baby Barack” appealing, she personally “would’ve felt for him,” suggesting the weight of expectations that would have come with being the son of a highly influential father.
The conversation highlighted Michelle Obama’s reflective parenting perspective and her deep awareness of the social pressures boys can face, especially under the shadow of a prominent public figure.
