Obama Responds After Trump Threatens Jail Over ‘Treason’ Allegations

Former President Barack Obama has issued a pointed response after President Donald Trump accused him of “treason” and demanded a criminal investigation into Obama’s alleged role in the Russia collusion inquiry.

Speaking through spokesman Patrick Rodenbush, Obama dismissed Trump’s remarks as “bizarre allegations” and described them as a “weak attempt at distraction.” Rodenbush stated, “Out of respect for the office of the presidency, our office does not normally dignify the constant nonsense and misinformation flowing out of this White House with a response. But these claims are outrageous enough to merit one.”

The rebuttal followed Trump’s remarks during an Oval Office appearance alongside Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., where he again claimed that Obama orchestrated a conspiracy to remove him from office during his first term. Trump also escalated his rhetoric on social media, posting an AI-generated image of Obama in an orange prison jumpsuit on Truth Social.

“After what they did to me, whether it’s right or wrong, it’s time to go after people,” Trump told reporters. When asked who he believed should be prosecuted, he responded without hesitation: “It would be President Obama – who started it – and Biden was there with him, and \[James] Comey was there, and \[James] Clapper, the whole group was there.”

Trump’s accusations are tied to a report released by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, which alleges that Obama’s administration “manufactured and politicized intelligence” to link Trump to Russia during the 2016 campaign. However, Obama’s team pointed to conclusions from the bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee, which confirmed that Russia did attempt to interfere in the 2016 election but found no evidence that votes were changed or that Trump colluded with Moscow.

Since returning to the White House for a second term, Trump has repeatedly promised “retribution” and has revived grievances from his first presidency, including the now-discredited Steele dossier and the Mueller probe, which concluded there was insufficient evidence of a conspiracy between Trump’s campaign and Russian operatives.
