FCT Minister Wike Promises Pay Raise for Band After Singing in Chinese
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, sparked laughter and applause when he promised to increase the wages of his official live band after an unexpected musical twist during a public event.
Wike made the announcement during the commissioning of the newly constructed collector road linking Mabuchi to Judges Quarters in Katampe, Abuja. The project was executed by a Chinese construction firm. During the event, the band’s lead singer surprised the audience by performing part of a song in a mock ‘Chinese’ accent — a light-hearted nod to the company responsible for the road.
The minister, clearly amused and impressed by the performance, responded with humor and appreciation, stating that the band’s wages would be increased. The moment drew cheers from attendees and quickly gained traction online, with many viewers sharing the video and praising the band’s creativity.
