Gunmen Kill 13 Farmers in Niger State’s Shiroro LGA

13 farmers were killed by armed assailants in the Anguwan Mai-Giro community of Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) in Niger State. The attack took place on Wednesday, leaving the local community in shock and mourning.

Niger State’s Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba, condemned the attack in a statement, describing it as “satanic, insensible, atrocious, and callous.” He expressed his deep concern over the increasing violence in the region, calling the act “utterly appalling and deeply disturbing.”

Garba extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Shiroro community, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the region. He also urged security agencies to remain vigilant and determined in their fight against criminal elements, assuring them of the government’s full support.

This incident adds to the growing insecurity in Niger State, which has seen a series of violent attacks in recent months. In March, over 20 women were abducted by bandits during an attack on a market in the Madaka community, under Rafi LGA. The ongoing violence in Nigeria’s northern region has exacerbated the country’s food security crisis, as farmers increasingly face threats to their lives and livelihoods.
