Gunmen Attack GUO Bus, Kill Driver, Abduct Passengers in Edo
Armed men suspected to be kidnappers have attacked a commercial bus operated by GUO Transport along the Benin–Lagos highway, killing the driver and abducting several passengers.
The incident occurred on Sunday, April 19, 2026, along the Benin–Ore axis, a route frequently used by travelers heading between the western and eastern parts of the country.
According to available information, the attackers ambushed the bus while it was en route from Lagos to the East. They reportedly opened fire on the vehicle, forcing it to stop. The driver was killed at the scene, while the passengers were taken into the surrounding bush.
A video circulating online shows the aftermath of the attack, with a voice recounting how the gunmen intercepted the vehicle, shot the driver, and led the passengers away.
The Edo State Police Command confirmed the incident and said efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators. Police spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, stated that officers have launched a coordinated search operation in the area.
She added that the attack took place within the jurisdiction of the Iguobazuwa Police Division, and that the Commissioner of Police has directed nearby divisions to support the ongoing rescue effort.
Authorities say bush-combing operations are in progress to locate the abducted passengers and apprehend those responsible.
