The Adamawa State Police Command has opened an investigation into the killing of an Anglican cleric, Emmanuel Ezeokwe, following an attack in Song Local Government Area.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 21, 2026, in Zinai Village, Bolki district. Police said suspected gunmen stormed the community and shot the priest.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, officers responded after receiving a report from a resident, Amos Sunday, who alerted authorities to the attack.

Police operatives arrived at the scene and evacuated the victim to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a doctor. His body has since been deposited in the morgue for an autopsy.

Preliminary findings indicate that three empty AK-47 shell casings were recovered at the scene.

The Commissioner of Police, Kabir Umar Hasaan, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to carry out a detailed probe. Tactical teams have also been deployed to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The police urged residents to remain calm and assist the investigation by providing relevant information.
