Gunmen Attack PDP, Atiku’s Witnesses
Unidentified gunmen attacked witnesses traveling to Abuja from Zamfara state to testify before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu the lead counsel for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar told the Tribunal on Friday.
A lawyer in the PDP and Atiku’s team, Chris Uche (SAN) first narrated the incidence to the trial judge, Justice Mohammed Garba when Uzoukwu walked in to corroborate the claims.
He said, “I was the one that was called on the phone. I kept having the repeated calls and had to go out to answer.
“I was told that while the witnesses were on their way from Zamfara State, they were attacked by armed men.
“Some of them jumped into the bush and some of them were gravely injured.
“Up till now, they are still looking for some of them in the bush.”
In view of the development, Justice Garba adjourned hearing to Monday, July 15, 2019.
Atiku and the PDP are challenging the results of the February 23, 2019 presidential election in several states of the federation. Some witnesses called by the PDP on Thursday told the Tribunal how election results were doctored at the local government collation centre in Kaduna state. Another narrated how results from the strongholds of the PDP in the state were cancelled.
