Governor Mbah Speaks on Plan of Leaving PDP
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has dismissed rumours suggesting he plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reiterating his loyalty to the party.
Speaking during an interactive session with members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) on Saturday in Enugu, Mbah said, “I am still in the PDP. As you can see, the flag behind me is that of the PDP.”
While acknowledging challenges within the party, the governor expressed confidence that the PDP would overcome its internal issues soon, adding that the broader crisis in the country was not solely tied to any one party.
Commenting on independent candidacy, Mbah noted that the Nigerian constitution does not currently provide for individuals to contest elections without a party platform.
“You must still do politics; you cannot completely shield yourself from it,” he said. “It is also clear from the people of Enugu State that we are in this to serve them. At the end of the day, the people will decide whether they want to renew our mandate or not.”
Mbah also disclosed that his opponent in the 2023 governorship election, Chijioke Edeoga, had returned to the PDP to work with his administration in advancing the state.
