Correctional Officer Stabs Colleague to Death in Dispute Over Food
A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday at the Burra Correctional Centre in Bauchi State, where a correctional officer was fatally stabbed by a colleague following a dispute over food. The altercation took place around 2 p.m. in Burra town, Ningi Local Government Area.
Witnesses report that the deceased, Aliyu Abubakar Chiroma, and the suspect, Kabiru Abubakar, were close friends prior to the incident. Tensions escalated when Chiroma brought his lunch, and Kabiru insisted on sharing, leading to a heated argument.
Aminu Ahmed, the Public Relations Officer for the correctional centre, confirmed the incident, stating it occurred outside the facility. He noted that Chiroma was from Giade Local Government Area, while Kabiru hails from Dass Local Government Area. Both officers were stationed at the Burra Correctional Centre.
Following the incident, Chiroma’s body was released to his family for burial, while Kabiru remains in police custody as investigations are ongoing. Efforts to obtain additional comments from the command’s spokesperson were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
