Bala Mohammed: ‘We Can’t Allow National Drift to Anarchy’ as PDP Governors Go into Closed-Door Meeting
Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have convened a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Enugu. The session, held on Wednesday morning, was described as extraordinary by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed.
In his opening remarks, Governor Mohammed emphasized the importance of the meeting, noting it was designed for the governors to reinvigorate themselves and strategize on advancing both the party and the nation. He praised the host, Governor Dr. Peter Mbah, for his significant developmental achievements, which he said exemplified the PDP’s commitment to progress.
“This is an extraordinary meeting of the PDP Governors Forum and some of our major stakeholders, including our National Working Committee and various organs of the party,” Mohammed said. He highlighted the session’s uniqueness, pointing out the PDP’s historical leadership and the necessity for rejuvenation amid current national challenges.
Mohammed underscored the critical nature of the discussions, focusing on governance and party administration. “We have come here to discuss, to refire ourselves, interact and discuss issues that affect us. Nigerians need us, and we need ourselves,” he stated. He also expressed pride in his colleagues for their exemplary governance and thanked Governor Mbah for his hospitality.
Addressing the current state of the nation, Mohammed expressed concern over what he termed a drift towards anarchy. “Actions at the national level have shown that we are drifting to anarchy, and we cannot allow this. We have a shared history and shared aspirations to ensure that Nigeria places itself well in the comity of nations where we lead as usual,” he said.
The meeting saw participation from several key figures within the PDP, including Governors Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers State), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Umo Eno (Akwa-Ibom), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), and the host governor, Peter Mbah.
Also in attendance were Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, Deputy National Chairman (South), former Kaduna State Governor and former Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, and former Nigeria State Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu.
