Abia Commissioners Resign Amid Speculation
Two commissioners from Governor Alex Otti’s cabinet have reportedly resigned from their positions on Wednesday. The officials stepping down are Chima Oriaku, Commissioner for Science and Technology, and Professor Mrs. Monica Ironkwe, Commissioner for Agriculture.
The news of their resignations emerged shortly after a State Executive Council meeting, chaired by Governor Otti. Conflicting reports have surfaced regarding the nature of their departures; while some sources claim the commissioners were dismissed, others suggest they resigned voluntarily.
As of this report, neither Governor Otti nor Prince Okey Kanu, the Information Commissioner, has issued an official statement to clarify the circumstances of the resignations. Sources indicate that the commissioners themselves were not informed of the reasons behind their exits.
This incident follows the recent removal of Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, the Commissioner for Health, during a State Executive Council meeting in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South local government area.
Addressing the speculation, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, stated: “The two commissioners resigned from the Cabinet. No one was sacked. Disregard the trending rumours.”
