APC Reacts as Party Official Is Linked to Kidnap, Killing of Ex-Deputy Governor’s Father

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State says it is shocked by reports linking one of its officials to the kidnapping and death of Francis Igwe, father of former deputy governor Kelechi Igwe.

Authorities have confirmed that the party’s publicity secretary in the state is alleged to have been involved in the crime.

The state APC chairman, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, led a delegation of party members on a condolence visit to the Igwe family on Saturday at Ndufu-Alike in Ikwo Local Government Area.

Okoro-Emegha said the report had left party members stunned.

He said the party leadership found it difficult to comprehend that one of its members could be linked to such a crime, adding that the development had deeply embarrassed the party.

According to him, the APC would support whatever action the state government takes to ensure justice for the family.

He also said anyone who knew about the crime but failed to report it should face consequences under the law.

Okoro-Emegha urged the former deputy governor to remain strong, saying his resilience would encourage others affected by the incident.

Speaking during the visit, the palace secretary of the community, Johnson Aloh, thanked the APC delegation for the condolence visit.

Aloh said the community and the palace were devastated by the killing, describing the incident as disturbing for a state that had been regarded as peaceful.

He, however, said the community viewed the allegation as the action of an individual and not the party.

Aloh called for firm action against those responsible, saying anyone whose conduct could damage the reputation of the state should be held accountable.

The case is currently under investigation.
