APC Deputy Governorship Candidate Demands N2bn Damages from PDP Spokesman for Alleged Libel
In a recent development, Rt. Hon Dennis Idahosa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate and member representing Ovia Federal Constituency, has taken legal action against Olu Martins, the spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate. Idahosa is demanding N2 billion in damages over what he claims to be a libelous statement made by Martins.
The demand for N2 billion in damages, specified as general, punitive, aggravated, and exemplary, is outlined in a writ of summons dated May 3. Additionally, Idahosa has requested N15 million to cover the cost of legal proceedings.
In his seven-point demand, Idahosa seeks a perpetual restraining order against Martins and his agents from further disseminating defamatory statements, as well as an order for the removal of the allegedly defamatory article from various social media platforms.
The writ, issued by the West-Idahosa SAN & Co law firm, also demands a retraction of the statement in question and a public apology to be published in the same media outlets used by Martins.
