Again, Six Policemen on Rescue Mission Killed in Delta, Six Missing (Full List)

The Nigeria Police Force has disclosed the tragic loss of six officers, with six others missing, in a harrowing ambush during a rescue operation in Delta State. The officers, identified by the Force Headquarters, were on a mission to locate and rescue three missing colleagues within the confines of Ohoro Forest, Delta State. According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the officers fell prey to armed assailants who launched an ambush, resulting in the gruesome murders.

The fallen heroes were identified as Inspector Abe Olubunmi (IRT), Inspector Friday Irorere, Sergeant Kuden Elisha, Sergeant Akpan Aniette, Sergeant Ayere Paul, and Sergeant Ejemito Friday. The missing officers include Inspector Onoja Daniel, Inspector Onogho Felix, Inspector Emmanuel Okoroafor, Inspector Joel Hamidu, Sergeant Moses Eduvie, and Sergeant Cyril Okorie (SWAT).

Expressing profound sadness over the devastating loss, the Nigeria Police Force extended heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen officers. The Force reiterated its commitment to honoring the bravery, dedication, and sacrifice of the slain officers.

In response to the tragic incident, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has initiated decisive actions. This includes the recovery of the bodies of the slain officers, the expedited processing and payment of entitlements to their families, and the swift pursuit of justice. As a result, five suspects have been apprehended, with efforts underway to bring all perpetrators to justice.

In a related development, Defence Headquarters announced efforts to track down those responsible for the killings of 18 soldiers in the Okuama community of Delta State. A banner of wanted terrorists and their cohorts has been deployed for ease of recognition and arrest.

Meanwhile, criticisms were levied against former military officer Maj Gen Tajudeen Olanrewaju for his comments on the Okuama killings. Socio-cultural groups condemned the misrepresentation of private security efforts in safeguarding national assets.

Additionally, the Coalition of Niger Delta Activists called for the prosecution of military personnel involved in the razing of Okuama community and the extra-judicial murder of civilians. The group denounced such actions as egregious violations of human rights and demanded swift legal action.
