Delta Police Confirm Arrest of 15 Persons Over Alleged Mass R@pe in Ozoro
The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 15 suspects in connection with an alleged mass sexual assault in Ozoro community.
Police spokesperson Bright Edafe disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday in Asaba, providing an update on the ongoing investigation into the incident, which reportedly occurred on Thursday in Oramudu Quarters.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adeshina, directed the CP Special Assignment Team to carry out a thorough probe. Operatives subsequently reviewed video footage and intelligence, leading to the arrest of 11 additional suspects.
Those identified include Samson Atukpodo, Steven Ovie, Ugbevo Samson, Afoke Akporobaro, Evidence Oguname, and six others.
The latest arrests bring the total number of suspects in custody to 15.
Police said preliminary findings suggest that criminal elements took advantage of the situation to carry out acts of sexual violence. Authorities emphasized that the incident does not reflect any recognized cultural practice in the Ozoro community.
“The Commissioner condemns these acts entirely and reassures the public of the command’s resolve to secure justice for victims,” the statement said.
The police also urged victims and witnesses to come forward with credible information to support the investigation, assuring that all those involved would be identified and prosecuted.
