Police Arrest Gun Sender, One Other Over Pistol Linked to Extrajudicial Killing by Police Officer

Police authorities have taken into custody two suspects in connection with the transfer of a firearm believed to have been used in the killing of a 28-year-old man, Oghenemine Ogidi, by a police officer in Effurun, Delta State.

The arrests include a man allegedly responsible for sending the firearm from Yenagoa in Bayelsa State to Effurun, where the incident occurred.

Security sources said the suspects were moved on Wednesday night to the Effurun Area Command under the Delta State Police Command as investigations widen into how the weapon and four rounds of ammunition were transported and used.

Although police officials have not issued an official statement, a source familiar with the case said the detained individuals include the alleged sender of the pistol, a Beretta-type firearm, and possibly another person linked to its transportation.

According to the source, the weapon was reportedly moved through a transport network from Yenagoa to Effurun, where it was later recovered in connection with the killing of Ogidi. He was allegedly on his way to deliver the weapon to an intended recipient in Sapele when he was intercepted.

The circumstances surrounding the death of Ogidi remain under scrutiny, alongside the actions of Nuhu Usman, an Assistant Superintendent of Police identified in the incident.

Investigators say efforts are ongoing to identify all individuals involved in the movement of the firearm and establish the full sequence of events leading to the shooting.
