How Hijab-Clad Woman Tricked Family, Abducted Toddler During Burial Ceremony in Delta

A three-year-old girl has been reported missing after being abducted by a woman in the Ogwashi-Uku area of Delta State, prompting an appeal for urgent intervention from security agencies.

The child, identified as Sheripha, aged three years and eight months, was taken on March 7, 2026, during a burial ceremony held in the Hausa community of the town.

Her father, 33-year-old suya seller Abubakar Isiaka, said the suspect arrived at their residence in the afternoon, dressed in a hijab and speaking Hausa. She reportedly asked his wife for directions to the home of a woman said to be known in the area.

According to Isiaka, his wife instructed their older daughter to guide the visitor. The younger child followed them.

He said the suspect later gave the older sibling N200 to buy biscuits. When the girl returned, both the woman and Sheripha were gone.

The incident was immediately reported to community leaders, vigilante groups, and the police. A search was launched by residents and attendees of the burial, but the child has not been located.

“We have not slept since this happened. We are pleading with the authorities to help us bring our child back,” Isiaka said.

The Delta State Police Command confirmed the case. Police spokesperson Bright Edafe stated that efforts are ongoing to track the suspect and identify possible accomplices.

Authorities have advised parents and guardians to remain alert and ensure close supervision of children in public and residential settings.
