Bandits Strike During Ramadan Prayers: Prominent Politician Slain, Family Members Abducted
In a harrowing incident that has shocked the community of Mairuwa village in the Faskari local government area of Katsina State, bandits unleashed terror during Ramadan prayers on Saturday night, claiming the life of a prominent figure and abducting his wife and daughters.
The assailants, armed and brazen, targeted worshippers gathered for the sacred observance, leaving devastation in their wake. Among the victims was a revered figure known simply as Alhaji Lado, whose stature in the community made him a suspected prime target.
Eyewitnesses recounted the chilling scene as the bandits opened fire, ruthlessly taking the lives of at least two individuals and injuring another. Alhaji Lado, described as a distinguished businessman, politician, and prominent farmer, valiantly resisted the attackers’ demands, refusing to yield to their coercion. Tragically, his defiance cost him his life, as the assailants callously cut short his existence.
Survivors of the merciless assault revealed the further horror endured as the bandits, undeterred by their initial violence, seized Alhaji Lado’s wife and two daughters, plunging his family into a nightmare of uncertainty and fear.
Another victim, identified as Sani, a dedicated health worker at the Mairuwa Health Facility, also fell prey to the bandits’ indiscriminate brutality, further underscoring the indiscriminate nature of their violence.
The attack serves as a grim reminder of the pervasive threat of banditry that continues to plague Katsina State, despite efforts to curb the scourge. Despite numerous initiatives aimed at quelling the rampant lawlessness, the resilience of the criminal elements persists, leaving communities vulnerable and mourning the loss of their loved ones.
