Boko Haram Storms Nigerian Army Base in Yobe: One Soldier Dead, Military Vehicles Destroyed
In a recent assault, Boko Haram militants targeted a Nigerian Army base in Yobe State, resulting in the tragic death of a soldier and the destruction of military vehicles. The attack occurred in Gujba town within the Gujba Local Government Area, situated approximately 30 kilometers from Damaturu, the state capital.
The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), an offshoot of Boko Haram, claimed responsibility for the assault, asserting that their fighters launched the attack on Saturday morning. According to ISWAP’s statement, the terrorists engaged the military base with various weapons, causing the death of one soldier and forcing others to flee. Additionally, they set ablaze two military operational vehicles and seized heavy and medium machine guns along with ammunition.
ISWAP’s resurgence follows the demise of JAS leader, Abubakar Shekau, with the faction consolidating control in areas surrounding Lake Chad. Their ranks have swelled with the defection of numerous Boko Haram fighters previously loyal to Shekau.
In response, the Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating terrorism within the country. Nonetheless, Boko Haram’s reign of terror continues to claim lives and displace millions across Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states.
