Adamawa: Father of 20 Children Arrested for Defiling 12-Year-Old Girl After Enticing Her With N1000
In a shocking incident that has left a community in Adamawa State reeling in disbelief, a 40-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl. Mohammed Umar, a father of 20 children, confessed to the crime but claimed that the intercourse was consensual.
According to reports, Umar enticed the young girl with N1000 and allegedly threatened to kill her if she revealed their affair. The incident, which occurred in the Gusupan area of the Toungo Local Government, has sent shockwaves through the community.
Following his arrest, Umar was interrogated by the spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje. During the interrogation, Umar claimed that the girl approached him in his shop seeking to buy sugar. However, she asked for N2000, which she said she needed to refund to her step-mother. Umar said he gave her N1000, after which she allegedly agreed to engage in sexual intercourse with him.
In his confession, Umar stated, “She did not complain, not to talk of crying during sex. She enticed me for more than three times, but this time around, I couldn’t resist the temptation. It was God who brought it to me.”
The victim, on the other hand, vehemently denied Umar’s claims, stating that she was raped. She recounted that she went to buy sugar from Umar’s shop when he sent her to retrieve a kettle from a nearby house. It was there that he allegedly forcibly dragged her into a room and sexually assaulted her. The young girl claimed that Umar then threatened her with harm if she ever disclosed their encounter, stating that he had personal issues with her father for the past year.
Confirming the arrest, SP Suleiman Nguroje said that Umar was apprehended on October 11, 2023. The Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Babatola, has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter, with a focus on gathering evidence to ensure the suspect’s prosecution if found guilty.
The case has ignited a conversation concerning the protection of minors in Adamawa State, with many calling for justice to be served and for increased efforts to prevent such heinous acts from reoccurring in the future. The authorities and the community are now awaiting the outcome of the investigation and are hopeful that this incident will serve as a wake-up call to address the issue of child abuse in the area.
