Gateman Flees as 67-Year-Old Man Is Found Dead in Lagos Home

A 67-year-old man, Chief Augustine Nwalieze, has been found dead in his residence in Ajah, Lagos, in what police are investigating as a suspected murder.

Nwalieze, identified by family members as a manager with Okeyson Transport, was reportedly attacked on Saturday morning shortly after preparing to leave home.

According to a family source, concern grew when relatives noticed none of his vehicles had moved and repeated calls to his phone went unanswered. A search of the property later led to the discovery of his body in a downstairs flat within the compound.

The source alleged that the family’s gateman, Abdullahi Dairu, became a person of interest after reportedly giving conflicting accounts of Nwalieze’s whereabouts before fleeing the premises.

Family members said the victim was found with multiple machete wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

At the time of the incident, Nwalieze was said to have been at home with his wife, daughter, two maids and another woman, all reportedly upstairs.

The family has since begun arrangements to take his remains to his hometown.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the killing and said an investigation is underway.

Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi said efforts are ongoing to apprehend a security guard linked to the property who is currently at large.

Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death continue.
