Father of Boy Buried Alive by Stepbrother in Kogi on the Run; Shovel, Cutlass Missing
In a shocking turn of events in Apamsede, Kogi, Mr. Oshodi, the father of an 11-year-old boy buried alive by his stepbrother, is now on the run. The disturbing incident unfolded in the Silo community of Zango Daji, within the Adavi Local Government Area of the state.
It all began when the 11-year-old boy was accused of stealing N1,000 belonging to his stepmother. In a disturbing twist of events, the stepmother instructed her son to punish the young boy. Tragically, this punishment led the 17-year-old stepbrother to take the 11-year-old into the nearby bush, where he reportedly buried him alive.
Passers-by were the boy’s saviors, discovering and rescuing him on Wednesday after this horrific act. However, the shovel and cutlass allegedly used in this dastardly crime were nowhere to be found, deepening the mystery surrounding the case.
The Kogi Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Williams Ovye-Aya, disclosed that Mr. Oshodi had traveled and that the police were waiting for his return to hear his side of the story. This absence further complicates the investigation.
When the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) visited Apamsede community, it became evident that the father of the victim had fled the scene. On the day of the incident, the father, stepmother, and stepson were summoned to the palace of the traditional ruler to explain their actions.
According to Malam Garba Ahmed, the district head of Apamsede, the boy’s father was present during this meeting. However, he may have fled when the council insisted on involving the police in the matter. The stepmother and her son, Goodness, confessed to their involvement in the heinous act, prompting the community to take action.
“The traditional council of our community has decided not to harbor such people in our land,” stated Malam Garba Ahmed. “Once the stepmother and her son face the wrath of the law, we shall banish them from this land. But before we do so, we will ensure that the family offers a sacrifice to cleanse the land,” he added.
In a perplexing twist, when the police brought the boy’s stepmother to their house in Apamsede, they discovered that the shovel and cutlass allegedly used in burying the teenager were missing. Although the house was locked, the police noted that there were changes in the environment, raising questions about the involvement of unknown individuals.
“Somebody must have entered this house. Yesterday, when we came here, the house was locked, and the window curtain inside wasn’t down, as we can see now,” remarked one of the officers. “Some of the things that we met outside here yesterday are no longer here. Somebody must have come around here,” he added.
The disappearance of Mr. Oshodi and the missing tools used in the crime have added further complexity to this distressing case. The community and the authorities are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice and unravel the full extent of this horrifying incident.
