Abure Plans to Hold Illegal Congresses to Cause Anarchy, Destroy Party,” Says Labour Party Transition Committee

The Labour Party National Transition Committee (LP-NTC) has raised alarm over the actions of the party’s ‘suspended’ Acting National Chairman, Mr. Julius Abure, accusing him of plotting to hold illegal congresses that could lead to chaos within the party. According to a statement signed by the LP-NTC Chairman, Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, Abure’s planned activities could result in what they termed “political leprosy,” threatening the party’s stability and future.

The LP-NTC alleges that Abure’s efforts to organize membership registration, validation exercises, congresses, and a national convention are part of a broader scheme to fracture the Labour Party, rendering it ineffective in the upcoming 2027 general elections. The committee described his moves as a strategy to sow “maximum anarchy” within the party, leading to its disintegration.

The committee further highlighted that Abure’s tenure as National Chairman officially ended on June 10, 2024, and he had been suspended earlier by the party’s Ward 3 in Arue, Uromi, located in the Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State. The suspension was reportedly ratified by the Edo State executive committee in May 2024 and communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Moreover, the LP-NTC accused Abure of striking a deal with a prominent ruling political party in Nigeria. According to the committee, this deal involves Abure being financed to conduct unauthorized Labour Party congresses and a national convention in exchange for promises of political positions, including ministerial and senatorial slots in 2027.

In response to these developments, the LP-NTC has called on the Nigerian police and media to take immediate action. They urged the police to stop Abure’s alleged illegal activities and prosecute him accordingly, while appealing to the press to expose what they termed as his “broadway series of daylight crimes.”

The committee concluded by appealing to Nigerians for support in their mission to restore order within the Labour Party and safeguard Nigeria’s democratic processes from what they described as Abure’s “protracted plague.”
