Abia LG Polls Underway as Assembly Confirms ABSIEC Members (Full List)
The Abia State House of Assembly has officially confirmed the nominees for the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), following their screening by the legislative body. The announcement was made by Deputy Speaker Augustine Okezie during the plenary session.
Professor George Chima was confirmed as the Chairman-designate of ABSIEC. Additionally, Dr. Kelechi Okere, Joseph Uzoma Akara, Nkemdirim Kalu, and Bertha Ehumadu were approved as members of the commission. However, nominees Ekele Queen Ahuchogu and Onyemauche Elekwe were absent and will be screened on a later date.
The Assembly also confirmed Mrs. Eke Ngozi Ogbonnaya-Ugwo as the Auditor General of the state, nominated by Governor Alex Otti.
In other legislative news, the House passed the Abia State 2024 Appropriation Virement Bill (H.A.B.21). The bill authorizes a reallocation of N171,074,664,965.00 within the 2024 state budget for government services and related purposes through December 31, 2024.
