Yul Edochie Faces Backlash for Misleading AFCON Prophecy; Calls to Shut Down Church Grow

Popular Nigerian actor and self-proclaimed pastor, Yul Edochie, is under scrutiny as his prediction regarding the AFCON final between Nigeria and Ivory Coast turns out to be false.

In the intense AFCON finals held on Sunday, Nigeria faced Ivory Coast, resulting in a 2-1 defeat for the Super Eagles. Goals from Nigeria’s captain, William Troost-Ekong, were overshadowed by two strikes from the Ivorian captain, Frank Kessie, and their striker, Sebastian Haller.

Edochie’s Instagram post prior to the match confidently asserted, “There will be no penalty shootout in today’s match. Ivory Coast will be easily defeated by Nigeria.” This prophecy proved to be inaccurate, fueling criticism against the actor-pastor, who recently launched an online ministry named True Salvation Ministry, claiming a divine calling.

As internet users flooded social media with disapproval, some Nigerians called for the closure of Edochie’s church. User @iam_baron commented, “With due respect sir, close down your church,” reflecting the growing sentiment of disappointment and skepticism surrounding Edochie’s prophetic claims.

Others, such as @succi_collections and @official queendee, expressed disdain for the failed prophecy, with comments like, “Oga, we don’t need your prophecy, abeg” and “For the second time you have prophesied lies.”
