Yoruba Nation: Sunday Igboho Submits Petition to UK Prime Minister
Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has submitted a petition to the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, urging consideration of the Yoruba Nation secessionist movement in Nigeria.
According to Sahara Reporters, while the details of the petition remain confidential, sources suggest it centers on the ongoing agitation for the creation of an independent Yoruba nation. Igboho submitted the petition on behalf of Professor Adebanji Akintoye, the leader of the Yoruba Nation movement, in a bid to gain international support.
The submission, which took place on Saturday, was accompanied by key figures from the Yoruba movement, including Diaspora Youth Leader Prophet Ologunoluwa, Vice President of Ifeladun Apapo Fatai Ogunribido, General Secretary of Yoruba World Media Alhaja Adeyeye, and Yoruba Nation Movement member Paul Odebiyi.
The Yoruba Nation movement is calling for the UK government’s intervention in their pursuit of a separate Yoruba state, predominantly for the indigenous Yoruba people.
Historian and leader of the movement, Banji Akintoye, had previously accused the Nigerian government of attempting to pressure Igboho into withdrawing from the secessionist cause. The petition to the UK government marks the latest step in the movement’s efforts to gain international recognition and support.
