Sunday Igboho Returns to Nigeria, Heads to Olubadan Palace After Removal From Wanted List

Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has returned to Nigeria and is on his way to the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.

Sources confirmed that the visit follows Igboho’s removal from the federal government’s wanted list and his clearance to re-enter the country after several years abroad.

Igboho’s spokesperson, Olayomi Koiki, disclosed the development on Monday, stating that Adeyemo travelled from the Benin Republic to Ibadan and was expected at the Olubadan Palace the same day.

Koiki said Igboho was no longer being sought by Nigerian authorities, attributing the change to interventions by traditional rulers, engagement by political actors, and sustained advocacy by Yoruba leaders both within Nigeria and in the diaspora.

According to him, Igboho’s return has the backing of the Olubadan, whom he described as playing a key role in facilitating the activist’s reintegration into the country.

Igboho left Nigeria in 2021 following a raid on his Ibadan residence by the Department of State Services (DSS), an operation that led to deaths and the arrest of several of his associates. He was later arrested in the Benin Republic while attempting to travel to Germany and subsequently remained outside Nigeria amid legal and diplomatic proceedings.

His return marks a notable development in a case that has featured prominently in national discussions on security and separatist movements. The visit to the Olubadan Palace is expected to be Igboho’s first major public appearance since leaving the country.
