JUST IN: Military Confirms Officers’ Plot to Topple Tinubu
The Nigerian military has acknowledged that a number of its officers were involved in a plan to overthrow President Bola Tinubu.
The alleged plot, dating back to October 2025, reportedly involved officers from the rank of Captain to Brigadier-General, who were arrested and detained by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).
On Monday, SK Blog reported that the panel tasked with investigating the arrested officers had submitted its findings to the president.
In a statement, Major-General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, confirmed the report had been forwarded to the “appropriate superior authority.” He added that officers with cases to answer will face formal military trials under the Armed Forces Act and relevant service regulations.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) wishes to inform the general public that investigations into the matter have been concluded and the report forwarded in line with extant regulations,” Uba said.
He explained that the probe carefully examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the implicated personnel. “The findings have identified a number of officers with allegations of plotting to overthrow the government, which is inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards required of members of the AFN,” he stated.
Uba emphasized that making the findings public demonstrates accountability while upholding fairness and due process. He reiterated that the AFN remains committed to professionalism, loyalty, and respect for constitutional authority.
“The measures being taken are disciplinary and part of ongoing efforts to maintain order, discipline and operational effectiveness within the ranks,” he added.
