“I’m a Christian but I Use Charms” – Sunday Igboho

Yoruba self-determination activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has said he practices traditional spiritual rituals alongside his Christian faith.

Addressing a council of traditional rulers, Igboho spoke openly about his religious upbringing, early life, and spiritual practices, insisting that his use of charms does not contradict his Christianity.

“I am a Christian, but I use charms. I was born in church, but I do charms. I was trained in the act. Everyone knows my father is a babalawo in Modakeke,” he said. He also highlighted the religious diversity in his family, noting that while his father, Muideen Ajayi Bello, is Muslim, he follows Christianity.

Igboho, a native of Igboho in Oke-Ogun, Oyo State, grew up in Modakeke, Osun State, under his father’s guidance. He has gained national attention for advocating for a Yoruba nation and efforts to confront Fulani herders in the Southwest, actions that have attracted scrutiny from the Nigerian government.
